Feeling good inside

How happy you feel is also called well-being or 'emotional health'.

There are lots of different feelings that we can have:

  • Happy
  • Scared
  • Sad
  • Worried
  • Angry
  • Excited

It feels good when we're happy, and it would be nice to feel like this all the time. But sometimes we also feel sad, scared, worried or angry, so it's important to learn how to get that happy feeling back again.

Here are some top tips for staying happy:

Take your mind off it

Do something you enjoy - read your favourite book, do a drawing, or remember a time when you felt really happy.

Talk to a friend

If you're upset or worried about something: talk to a friend or a parent/carer. It's amazing how much better things feel when you share what's on your mind.

Don't get angry

We can feel angry because of something that's happened or because of what someone has done.

But when we're angry we often don't behave in the best way and this can get us in trouble. If you feel angry: stop, take a breath and talk to a friend or a parent/carer. Soon you will feel calm again.

Motivational Tip

Work out the benefits – feeling fitter, calmer, more alert and good about yourself are just some of the benefits of being healthier. Work out what will specifically benefit you in taking part in the challenge. Make a list that you can look at when you’re not feeling very motivated.
