Healthy eating

Food affects us in many ways. Yes, nutrition is important, but the food we eat provides us with more than vitamins and nutrients. Enjoying food together with friends and family can help us to relate better with others and gives us a chance to talk to each other about what’s going on in our lives.

You may have heard people talk about having a balanced diet - have you seen the "Eatwell plate"?

A balanced diet really can help our bodies become healthier if you get the balance right. Eating the right foods will give you the energy you need if you want to exercise or go out with your friends, or if you just need a boost to get up off the sofa. The right balance of food and activity also helps us maintain a healthy weight.

All of these things can affect how confident we are and how good we feel about ourselves.

Making your choice count

Our food choice is influenced by all sort of things - how we are feeling, who we are with, where we are and how much money we’ve got - not forgetting our likes and dislikes! What we know about the food we eat, where it comes from and the skills we have to choose, prepare and cook it also plays a big part in deciding what makes up our diet.

There are many different foods to choose from, so it’s up to you to make your choice count positively.

Here are a few top tips:

  • eat breakfast
  • drink more water

Healthy Tip

Think outside the box - if you want to do a physical activity challenge then make it something that you will enjoy rather than something that you will struggle to keep up. It could even be something like gardening!
